EGU-Conference 2025

Spreewasser at EGU 2025 – Vienna, Austria (27 April – 2 May 2025)

The Spreewasser project was represented at the EGU General Assembly 2025 through two oral presentations and one poster, addressing key topics in groundwater management within the Lower Spree catchment. The sessions highlighted:

  1. Sustainable Groundwater Use under Changing Climate and Water Demand
This oral contribution presented modeling strategies for assessing long-term water availability in the Lower Spree region, considering climate change and anthropogenic pressures.
  1. Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) as a Climate Adaptation Strategy
This poster discussed how MAR can help mitigate seasonal water scarcity and enhance groundwater resilience, proposing methods for site selection and effectiveness evaluation.
  1. Impacts of Groundwater Extraction on Salinization and Flow Patterns
This oral presentation explored how deep groundwater extraction alters salinity distributions and flow dynamics in Berlin’s multi-aquifer system using stable isotopes and hydrochemistry to trace sources of salinity and recharge.

Together, these presentations emphasize the importance of integrated hydrogeological modeling, adaptive water management, and innovative recharge solutions to secure water resources in the face of climate and hydrological extremes.
